She was always chasing something she couldn’t name. A change in the wind. The shimmer of wet leaves after a sunshower. The half-forgotten path that led somewhere soft and green.
 
That afternoon, she found herself at the garden’s edge—where the air was thick with the sweetness of orchid in full bloom, its pale petals damp and shining. Black amber drifted low and golden, curling warm at her sleeves like sunlight trapped in cloth. And when the rain came—soft and silver—it rose from stone and moss with a cool, clean breath that made her close her eyes and smile.
 
She stayed until the last drop fell. She always did.
